See ya Monday...

Resolutions for the New Year...

1. To be what I should be for a long time coming. To find the lost fire. To be alive again and not dreading every single time I have to step into the DJ booth. To have more logic then blind loyalty.

2. To tell those dicks (and cunts included) off... those that keep asking me to sort them out with DJ gigs. If you ain't worth your salt, perhaps that's the reason you're on the bench and no one is ringing your door bell! Consider the entire year to rethink your strategies. And the consistent or subtle hint for a helping hand should be eradicated. Here's a pointer... it's no longer about the music, it's about the cash register. Passion pays no bills. Period. To summarize, don't fucking patronize me for your own personal agenda!

3. To set the bench mark even higher by getting off my arse to embrace Ableton fully and dishing out 100 tunes in a 2-hour sets. And to do a mother-of-all megamixed promo CD... in a couple of month's time.

4. Stop making any more stupid resolutions after this because I'll never keep them anyway.

Some people just don't get it, do they?

"I see what's wrong now. This machine's fucked!"

You can buy want I have. You can play the tunes I have. You can do what I do. You can replicate as much as you want. Fuck, you can even tap my social network for all I bloody care! But you can never be me or achieve the things I've accomplished or experienced. Money can't buy what's destined or what I've attained through sheer groundwork... neither can it buy the respect I've earned or the persona and the wit I possess. I know the saying... "if you fail, try and try again." But seriously, sometimes it's not worth getting your pride hurt, time and time again after each failure to succeed. Reality's a bitch. Deal with it!

So there, you dumbass Xerox-machine! I said it. You won't amount to anything much despite all your feeble attempts. Now sod the fuck off and quit being such a blooming irritant! Cannot make it means cannot make it. Don't get a stroke trying to figure out why...

That's my New Year's Resolution, because I can never keep them. So sue me, my will power is weak. I hate it when people go around asking everyone the same fucking question every year. OK, maybe I have just one... to get a nail gun and fucking shoot any contractors that make too much fucking noise around my residence when they're not supposed to work. It's boxing day and they've started again. What the fuck?! Granted, that's not so much of a resolution. So what?

Oh, and also to shove a beer bottle up the ass of any DJ(s) that shout out the ultra-redundant "Let's Go!" during their sets. Go where? Up the chocolate starfish! Now, how's that for DIRTY?

What I got for Xmas...

This Christmas, I received a scarf, an iPod Touch, a champagne and bucket set, a carton of Budweiser, two tubs of kisses, a Bart Simpson plush, a barrel of hugs, a champagne and truffles set, a bunny, a USB panic button and finally a Porche 911 Carrera. AS IF! That's from friends and loved ones in Facebook.

Seriously now. What I got was the Tickle-Me-Xtreme Elmo. It's one-year late, claims the giver... but better late than never. Just a few hours ago, it was unwrapped for it's debut "afternoon matinee", and it got everyone at home laughing hilariously for no apparent reason at all. My dad was almost in tears just watching the darn thing tumble around. My mom was frantically pushing all the "tickle" points, trying to kill it, I think. Personally, it's a damn good cure for boredom, stress and unhappiness. I guess I'll be playing with it quite often then.

The other gift was the graphic adaption of the Beowulf screenplay. I haven't seen the movie nor do I really quite know what it's about either. Sure I've always been a comic/manga book fan/collector, and I do buy and an occassional read every now and then, but I've been so seriously out of touch for years. Nonetheless, I'm sure it'll come in handy on one of these lazy weekends. Damn, I almost forgot how fun it is to be absorbed into comics. The smell of the print brings back such great "teenage" memories.

It's been a really quiet Christmas. Last year, I spent the eve with relatives and family over a great dinner spread, wine and conversation. This year's eve was completely pointless, redundant and downright pathetic! Really don't see the fucking point in a Christmas countdown (or a Christmas party, for that matter). And then there's some stupid staff party to attend later. Cohesiveness and morale-boosting is not achieved via such stupid narrow-minded ideas. Madonna once sang, "it's a material world". Take a page out from there, please! No one really cares much about buffet lines, beer kegs, unsellable alcohol and childish games. It's the fucking 21st century for crying out loud. Some customs and practices are just a complete waste of time. Just like some (spineless) dogs should be put to sleep and spare the rest of the world any further grievances... sadly, idiots/morons still run rampant!

However things have been turning out for you... hope your Christmas does not suck as bad. Actually, I'm having fun bitching about the general stupidity that reign supreme.

By the way, were was everyone last night? River Valley Green's "BYOB" gathering and then Ferry "Microphone Junkie" Corsten. How I know? Perhaps it's because I bother to climb outside the well? Like DUH?!

Copy copy... not original!

To a certain someone who has been trying so hard to emulate in (almost) everything I do... please stop it. It's damn fucking obvious and other bystanders are even commenting on it. You're not going to amount to much anyway. Some are cut out for it, some are not... no matter what you do or in your case, attempt to do. If it doesn't come naturally, then it's a sign. That's the way of the world. So for the love of God, please stop all your irritating copying ways. You're only going to hurt yourself more.

Imitation is the best form of flattery? You know what I think of your feeble attempts thus far? Critically and creatively speaking? Well... to be completely honest... I think you're...

PAWNED!

And for the rest of you faithful readers of this blogsite...

Progressions... the aftermath!

I forgot that I might see,
So many beautiful things.
I forgot that I might need,
to find out what life could bring.

My personal gratitude to every single soul that made their way down to Ministry Of Sound (Singapore) and joined us in what seems to be an endless night of grins, smiles and lots of perspiration! The gig was what I sorely needed to reinstate my self-confidence and belief in what I do, as well as to know that I'm once again proving the critics wrong that I was right in chosing the path of Trance as my weapon of choice.

Well, what can I say but to THANK YOU ALL! There was a brief moment that tears actually rolled down my face. It wasn't the adoration, it wasn't the response (which was bloody fantastic!)... it was the sheer fact that after so many years of ups and downs, here I stand once again with my people... as one with me on this aural journey. The last time I was overwhelmed with emotions was when I first played for Gatecrasher but in the defunct Centro.

As always, nothing beats a room full of up-for-it musically-inclined punters... cheering you on with every tune you drop, giving you cheers of approval... and basically letting go like there's no tomorrow. It was such great! And not very often anyone gets to see me that wasted and plastered at the end of the night... going around the entire club to thank each staff personally.

Just when you think you've seen us at our best... a night like that happens and the benchmark is pushed even higher. I'm proud of the Progressions brand and how it has grown to be such a clubbing lifestyle institution. And we really couldn't have done it without you... the people on the dancefloor :)

And it's very encouraging to see regular mates as well as new faces coming up to me and giving us the vote of confidence. Hell, I even saw people I haven't seen for ages! I'll never forget last night. Not in a million years. And let me be blunt to say that I crave for it constantly and I feed on it! It's one of those needs that you can never suppress.

My personal gratitude to my long time mate / business partner P@t for taking such great articulate care of Progressions. It's been too long since I last DJed with him and in my opinion, a great ease in terms of chemistry... contributing to yet another notch in the book of memorable gigs.

Here are some videos and pix courtesy of Jes, our awesomely decked-up camera-person; as well as a couple more from Alyssa Sidek. And for those yet to join our Facebook Group, please do so to gain access to freebies (i.e. last night's promo mix CD), updates and etc.

New Year Resolution #1

I've always wanted to get a tattoo done... more so now after watching "The Tattooist" movie. Problem then was that I could never really decide what I wanted. And I finally found what I was looking for...

... with the text "MARTYR"

Nothing religious in nature whateversoever although it depicts a man being crucified. Just something to remind me that despite all the bad things that can happen to me in life and etc, it's nothing compared to the degree of what others may be suffering.

Hmmm... now to find a good reputable tattoo artiste.

p/s The word "martyr" is used ironically in casual conversation to refer to someone who seeks attention or sympathy by exaggerating the impact upon himself of some deprivation or work.

Well, told you I was a complex person... now go figure!

In the spirit of giving this holiday season...

Band Aid was founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof (of Boomtown Rats) and Midge Ure (of Ultravox) in order to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia by releasing the record "Do They Know It's Christmas?" for the Christmas market. The single surpassed the hopes of the producers to become the Christmas number one on that release.

The group has reformed on three occasions, each time from the most successful British and Irish pop music performers of the time, to record the same song at the same time of year. Co-writer Midge Ure once commented : "Every generation should have its own version".

Despite the other versions selling equally as many records, and raised a lot of money for famine relief, most still considered the original version of the song superior. After all, it was "the day music changed history".

And this updated remix (which is streaming on this blogsite) of the 1984 original was specially made for my Xmas Eve mix show on Lush 99.5 FM in 2006. You can still support the cause by buying a piece of history either in the form of the 4-DVD Live Aid set or the 2004 Band Aid CD at Amazon. Know the true meaning of giving this Christmas...

... instead of all those silly redundant "happy" Christmas carols about Santa Claus, mistletoe, chestnuts roasting, silent night and some fictional reindeer called Rudolph. Spare a thought and a couple of dollars for the less fortunate.

p/s "We Are The World" is just a poor AMERICAN attempt at duplicating what Band Aid achieved in terms of being honest and heartfelt.

Progressions @ MOS (Singapore), 21st Dec 2007

Singapore's premium trance brand night at is back at the Ministry Of Sound for yet another BIG NIGHT OUT... delivering what they do best in bringing you another massive night in the main arena.

Alongside Kandi Bar's resident deejay Kennerve, the two main Progressions anchor DJs Yukun and P@t come together for this rare outing once again.

Kennerve has been DJing for the past 7 years. A key member in Frontal and the Groove Genetics consortium, two local groups that is in the forefront of the progressive music scene in Singapore. He has DJed in Insomnia, Nox and Fuse and is not afraid to introduce new sounds to the crowd. Only of recent years has his profile been heightened due to various high profile gigs and places he had played. His style of uplifting progressive house and trance has awed many. From Phuture’s Sessions to warming with the likes of Phil K, Kasey Taylor and PQM.

Yukun started his DJing career in 1991 and was launched into the public eye with repeated guest appearance at Zouk’s “Sessions”. He has garnered over a decade of deck, studio and residency experience and over the last 5 years, amassed worthy mentions and credits from all the big international boys after securing the spot of support DJ for the Gatecrasher tours in Singapore. In the past years, the popularity and hype revolving around his name has rocketed sky high whilst DJing alongside stellar gods such as Hybrid, Paul van Dyk, Scott Bond, Above & Beyond, Solarstone, Agnelli & Nelson, Pulser, Matt Darey, John Askew, Kyau vs Albert, The Thrillseekers, Lange, Misja Helsloot, Gareth Emery and Mike Koglin…

P@t, being the other co-anchor DJ for the brand night, has already planted his name in the history books of local club culture, having played countless gigs here and all over Asia. Known for his trademark blend of thumping and euphoric styles as well as his bag of sweet surprises.

Expect what the duo have been known for, causing multiple grins and hands reaching for the heavens with a handful of new tunes coupled with some familiar ones, and several classics thrown into the mix for good measure.

Chuck the elitism at the door and prepare to wear of the soles of your shoes.

It's been a while and we're eagerly anticipating this one!

See you on the dancefloor. You won't be the same when you wake up tomorrow!
