UPLOADED ON MY iPOD THIS WEEK

Various - My Blueberry Nights (Soundtrack)
[Blue Note Records]

Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai's first American movie, starring the debut of Norah Jones as an actress in a romantic road movie that takes place partly on the ghostly, highly symbolic Route 66. Music contributions come from major American sound-players like Norah, Ry Cooder, Otis Redding, Cat Power as well as composers like Gustavo Santaolalla (Brokeback Mountain) and Shigeru Umebayashi. All in all, a quality release from Blue Note and a collection of songs befitting the movie's mood.

I can't say the same for the over-rated / over-hyped Sex In The City soundtrack.

Duffy - Rockferry
[Mercury]

This is the most amazingly-constructed debut album I've heard in years. Every track is a worthy single and the album in it's entirety is a rare perfection. This Welsh is perhaps the most appealing white soul songstress out there at the moment. She's virtually unknown but she becoming a league of her own solely by appealing to musical tastemakers and spreading by the word of mouth through the beauty of her songs.

For discerning music lovers who dig true-blue Motown / Soul, perhaps it's time discover Duffy for yourself this era's "Dusty Springfield" in a youthful panache.

Radiohead - The Best Of
[EMI / Parlophone]

Featuring the best singles and popular tracks from the band's time with Parlophone, this collection is the ideal place for a novice introduction.the novice to begin. Most of the material are from the band's first 3 albums. Songs like 'Idioteque' and 'Karma Police' are worthy inclusions. Familiar ditties like 'High And Dry', 'Street Spirit' and 'Paranoid Android' are prime winners to convert new fans.
This CD is not overly-important but crucial to mark a milestone in the band's career.

The Ting Tings
- We Started Nothing

[Columbia]

The duo's quirky debut album... mixing pop, neo-punk and indie to spectacular effect with 10 delightful hooky gems. A perfect wake-me-up soundtrack, if there was one. Bursting with fun and catchy choruses without sounding too blatant. They're not exactly the next big thing but they certainly have refreshingly approach, making this an excellent first showing! I find myself humming the tunes even right now as I write this.

"That's not my name! That's not my name!"
