Boredom, stupidity, sex and diamonds.

I read an article online echoing the housing woes of the under 30 living in the clinical and controlled Lion City. Not that it'll really make any immediate radical changes as there are always some other "urgent" matters that needs to be addressed, i.e. where to put up the next ERP gantry.

To summarize, for those not in the know, which explains your incredible level of ignorance... if you're SINGLE and not 35 years old, you cannot buy a new HDB flat and can only purchase resale ones or private properties; which incidentally cost a hell lot more. Sure, there are subsidized rental flats catered for the lower income bracket; that's provided you and the co-occupant both have a combined income of under $1600. But about those that are in their late-20s and earn like $3k a month? HDB, don't you want to sell them a flat and take their money? It's money, you know? You want it, I know you do!

Anyway, this issue like many others is clearly a case of a law being made eons ago and is redundant in the current climate. Much like oral sex between heterosexuals being made "legal" today. The world laughs and mocks, just that those lawmakers pretend to be hard of hearing. Remember the stop at 2 policy to control the birthrate? Well, look where that has led us? We now have to IMPORT manpower due to the lack of it. Or so you're made to believe.

To summarize, two quotes from interviewees hits the target... one of which explains the increase in divorce cases in recent years.

"The house shouldn't come with the marriage. The house should be already there. If you let singles own a home, they'll be more independant, rather than choose marriage as a way to get out of the family home." - Miss Neo Whee Sin, 30.

"We're all Singaporeans and singles also pay income taxes. Why aren't we entitled to new HDB flats and treated like permananent residents?" - Mr Tay Seng Beng, 45.

Anyway, politics and idiotic policies ain't my thing.

I just lied but don't tell anyone.

Also in the news, 9 non-nominated MPs were put into Parliament. Whatever for, no one really knows or bother to ask why. One of them is Eunice "schwwiiiinnng" Olsen. Accordingly, she wants to RAISE in Parliament... volunteerism (why not include voyeurism as well?), sex education and support for local talent. Nevermind if she didn't STAND for election (she would win though) but did I read correctly? Sex education? God forbid, your precious little island may one day be seriously hip and eventually have the world's first Minister For Sex. And if that's the case, DOWN WITH THE PENAL CODE! One problem though. Most of the singles under 35 won't be f**king much though, at least not under their parents' roof. What? Some of you conservatives still think that only the married ones are having sex? Jeez whiz! Get with the programme!

Well, her cause is quite important actually. Make love and not enemies. I can't say the same for what another NMP wanted to represent. Get this. Promote people-to-people ties with Malaysia and Indonesia, and to ensure more people come forward to participate in society. Firstly, we are doing fine with our friends in Malaysia. They provide us with spot-on stock updates and excellent delivery services for our "questionable" DVD orders. And you can go tell Indonesia to stop smoking us first, then we "friend" them. As for getting involved in the society, what the f**k for? Look around you! What gracious society? I'd rather be a monkey's unkle.

Another NMP more wants to "attract and retain talent from abroad". Well what does that make the local talents then? Pale in comparison? In dire straits? Seriously, dude... what the hell? You really think there's an high level of acceptance for foreign talent amongst the domestic workforce? Haven't you been hearing all those degrading names that's been going around for each and every foreign nationality that's taken up some job or the other here. Wake up and smell the air, please! Very soon, there won't be open arms but clenched fists instead.

Which brings me to a really funny scene at The Cannery last night. Dwarf-like white dude comes to the country to offer his "expertise", draws a ridiculous pay and housing package, chases skirts on weekends, drink our booze and trips on a flower pot unglamourously. We looked at the pathetic fool trying to peel himself from the floor. He looks at us. We walk away without a helping hand. A few metres later, we laughed out really loud. Sorry, this has nothing to do with racism whatsoever. Just that it was a scene perfect of American Home Funniest Video. If it was a local, it would still be equally funny.

For those that are attached, planning to get married, or those that have irritatingly-materialistic partners, please bring your spouse / money-grabbing significant other to watch "Blood Diamond". No, not to salivate at Leonardo. But to learn the truth about "conflict diamonds".

After the movie, blatantly ask "would you like a one-carat ring?". Trust me, this movie is going to save some of you a hell lot! You'll never look at diamond thereafter without thinking about the possible number of lives lost just for that puny stone you're holding. Not that I'm a cheapskate or a stingy sod... I just don't subscribe to wearing "bling bang". And don't come and tell me that it was THEN and this is NOW. It's still happening in some mines in Africa. It's the same be it having a bowl of shark's fin or buying a tiger's penis (hint to dead cock neighbour). Where there's money, there's always senseless killings, there's always bloodshed and propaganda. Look at the Middle East disputes. What do you think all that "USA liberates Iraq" episode is about? World peace? Oh please! Only Miss Universe would truly Bush and his "saintly" administration. World piss!

Another bitchingly quiet and pointless weekend. Where's the rain when you most need it? *yawn*

You said it well. Seems that the lawmakers are constantly shooting themselves in the foot with each Bill passing.

Screw the natural progression, screw the so-called programming. It's just so communistic to have your lives all planned out for you.

"This is your path, like it or not!"

SinCity democratic? Fucking hell... who are we kidding?

Yours,
Sid Vicious

see the stupidity? as if with this homophobic measure, it'll lessen the likelyhood of the existence of gays and lesbians?

reminds me of how some maids tend to sweep all the dirt under the carpet. they forgot, no problem now... but it's accumulating.

this country is a stupid as the national icon... the merlion. the bastard child of a love affair between a mermaid and a lion. ok, i'm really side-tracking to randomness now.

i'm bored.

So the authority figures assume that gays and lesbian after 35 will get over their phase and be straight.

I really don't understand the 35 year old ruling.

What? Only at 35 are we truly indepedent.

I think if you ask Parliament why, you're going to get a hilariously insipid answer. As with many other previous answers and solution.

WHY 35?!!!!

I'm past 35. :(

p/s in case for those who are wondering why I'm making a drama of this housing issue, it's nothing personal... just voicing out what I think is downright stupid.
