Couple involved in fatal Clarke Quay brawl charged with murder

A couple was charged in court on Saturday with the murder of bar manager Eugene Chua.

27-year-old Ibrahim Abdul Rahman and 29-year-old Marliana Khamaruddin are alleged to have bashed Chua at a Clarke Quay outlet on Monday.

30-year-old Chua had gone to the Geographer's Bar, a Thai disco at Clarke Quay for some drinks with friends at 2.30am that day.

But a few hours later he was found outside the disco unconscious.

Chua died two days later from the injuries suffered.

Police say Chua got into a fight with a group of people at the disco early that morning.

Ibrahim Abdul Rahman and Marliana Khamaruddin were arrested on Thursday at Holland Drive for their role in the alleged attack.

If convicted, they could face the death penalty.

Police have identified other suspects and more arrests are expected.

Chua was a manager at Que Pasa, a wine bar at Emerald Hill. - CNA
