We went, we conquered...
Oh my fucking God. What a night! What a fucking night! I've never perspired that much during a set! My feet and backbone are sore. It's been a long while since we played to a rammed-to-the-brim club packed with up-for-it punters. Thank you to each and everyone for making the night such a huge and memorable experience (for P@t and me). The die-hard followers have waited for years and finally, we're back to relive the good old days of what having a good trance-night out is about. It's possibly the best gig we've done in years since the closure of Centro and Liquid Room... and it can only happen on the grandeur scale at Ministry Of Sound (Singapore). Everything just fell perfectly into place. The music, the massive Atomic strobes, the CO2 blasts, the spot-on light programming, the superb-in-your-face-speakers, the responsive audience, the mega-grins and waving hands all across the dancefloor... all accumalating to the very vibe that we have all craved for all these years!
Well, I certainly had a fucking great time dishing out stuff on the decks with NOBODY coming up asking for requests. All the cellphones that came up had messages like "Have mercy on me, I'm so tranced out now!", "You guys are undisputed!" and "Thank you Progressions so much for making this happen for us!". One Caucasian lady even said, "shake my hand now and make my day complete!". Most importantly, when we jumped... you jumped with us :)
All in all, it was just perfect... the way the night turned out to be. Thumbs up to the team at MOS for their most excellent hospitality : Bernard Lim, Eric Lee, Vikki Huang, Harry Ng, Godwin P, Effen, the technical guys, the lighting jockeys, the "live" visual arts girl and the worked-to-the-bone bar + floor crew. Also a huge thanks to the usual suspects that swear by the Progressions brand... Billy Poon + friends, Deny + posse, Fadil, Guanoe, Ian Ali, Kevin Ang, Matthew McCallen, Steven Trust, Zed Bacardi 151 and anyone else we never mentioned. There were just too many of you last night. We really appreciate all the well-wishes and the valuable support all of you have given to us. Also a huge thank you to suppliers like Tuck Lee Ice's Jeremy and Redbull's Aaron.
Some asked why Progressions "sold out" by going the super-club way and no longer championing the "underground". If anyone remembers corrected, Progressions was developed at Centro, which was in a sense, a super-club during it's heydays. Due to circumstances, we deviated and started doing loads of ad hoc here and there. After FIVE long years of manic marketing and events, the brand has to move on and Ministry is just ideal for us to gather the hordes of dedicated supporters and at the same time, to reach out to the uninitiated. We really need that growth on a larger scale. And after last night's amazing response, we can safely say... we're finally arrived.
For those that said Trance is passe and dead... and that local DJs pale in comparison to the internationals. Think again from the business point-of-view. If you were there, we beg to differ. No amount of think-tank can re-create what happened just like that. It's a result of years of hard work and that is why for those that have been following us, they feel a part of whatever success we achieve. Progressions is no longer a brand night... it's becoming a culture amongst some of you. There are already people making their own "Progressions" T-shirts and coming to the gigs. We should have some more photos up soon, either here or at the Progressions site. Till the next amazing outing... keep the faith and thank you so very much for reinstating my passion in the DJing craft and the very music that is my soul. Only now, the adrenalin is beginning to drain out and I have to sleep. It was truly a perfect day... and ended with my pillar of strength.
