A rarity for me to actually club visit but my movie / dinner date wanted to check out the "new" place that opened opposite Clarke Quay. I'm not mentioning the venue's name because I don't have nice things to say about it. First of all, it's nowhere near it's predecessor. For the uninitiated (like me), it's location is a fucking chore to find. The size is too bloody small to be called it a CLUB. The clientele... well, lets just say it's going to end up either like another SPG meat joint or one of those places those "beautiful people go to seen at". In simpler terms, it's not going to break any new grounds (musically or conceptually), much more contribute anything worth mentioning to the already dwindling Singapore club scene.
Once the first IR is up in Singapore, I'll bet my bottom dollar that most of the so-called clubbers here would rather choose a jackpot machine over some big-name international guest DJ. I know I would at the Barcarat tables. Why forgo a chance to make a small fortune instead of getting wasted in a club? Even business in the Geylang red-light district will be affected. So what's going to happen to the clubs here? You're going to get an influx of musically-retarded under-21s as they can't step into a casino just as yet. The future's so "bright", it's going to suck like hell.
Thus explains why I really can't be arsed when it comes to this industry anymore. Some peers have asked why. Some juniors expressed being disheartened by my disinterest. And those still trying to gain recognition as DJs are still barking up the wrong tree. Most amusing this week? A phone-text message that goes, "help me realize my dream to be a DJ like you". Noob!
Just thinking about it makes me bored and even more uninspired. I'm going to download some more good laidback mix sets at Soulshine as well as Properly Chilled and then get back to more snoozing and dreaming of the next time I have yet another lovely Japanese BBQ dinner.
